Commander Fishburn was born in Norristown, Pennsylvania in 1935.A 1957 graduate of Dartmouth College, he received his commission through the RegularNROTC Program. He served his initial tour of sea duty in USS Fletcher (DDE 445) out of Pearl Harbor from 1957 to 1960. After a brief return to civilian life and the active reserves, he returned to active duty in 1962, serving as Assistant CIC and ASCAC Officer in USS Hornet (CVS 12). Subsequent assignments included duty on the Staff of the Fleet Anti- Submarine Warfare School, San Diego, California; First Lieutenant in USS Bon Homme Richard (CVA 31); Executive Officer of USS English (DD 696); and Technical Director, under the Chief of Staff forAnalysis, COMASWFORPAC/ COMTHRDFLT, for Project UPTIDE, a series of advanced ASW tactical development exercises sponsored by CINCPACFLT from 1969 -1973. Commander Fishburn served as commanding officer of USS Morton (DD 948) from June 1973 to July 1974. After a brief assignment on the staff of COMCRUDESPAC REP Pearl Harbor, he was assigned to the Plans Division of the staff of the Supreme Allied Commander Europe, SHAPE Belgium, in 1975, and subsequently, in 1979, to the NATO staff of CINCEASTLANT, Northwood, England. Commander Fishburn retired from active duty in 1980. Commander Fishburn was MORTON's 10th Commanding Officer, serving from 29 June 1973 through 11 July 1974. Commander Fishburn is married to the former Susan Boyd Brooks of Honolulu, Hawaii. They have four children and eight grandchildren, and reside in Leavenworth, Washington. Updated December 9, 2002 |
